Technology and Knowledge Transfer Office

The technology and Knowledge Transfer workshop of the Polytechnic Institute of Viana do Castelo [OTIC-IPVC] has as its mission to support the protection of knowledge developed in its higher schools, research structures and collaborate in its Transfer to society, thereby stimulating innovation and competitiveness of the economic and business fabric. In this way, we seek to stimulate innovation and competitiveness of the economic and business fabric, as well as the creation of a technology-based company.

OTIC-IPVC intends to contribute to business development through two basic tools:

Technology-Push procedure: OTIC-IPVC carries out an exhaustive and continuous prospection of emerging technologies within the academic community where a database of the technological supply of the Polytechnic Institute of Viana do Castelo is integrated. Subsequently, the assessment of technology and its protection of intellectual property is made. The valuation of technology is obtained by developing a prototype, licensing model and business plan. The commercialization of technology is obtained through the establishment of technological-based companies and licensing contracts.

Demand-Pull procedures: OTIC-IPVC identifies the technological needs of the business sector and then makes a prospection in the institution of the appropriate skills to solve the identified problems and needs. Subsequently, the scientific evaluation of the solution found is made and its protection is created using different modalities of intellectual property, confidentiality agreements and regulatory contracts of intellectual/commercial exploitation The same. The valuation of the solution found is carried out at the market, Auscultating partners, competitors and customers about its potential value. Finally, its marketing is carried out with the requesting company.

ABOUT

OTIC-IPVC is a platform to support the development of a new culture of higher education aiming, on the one hand, the economic valuation of research and its results and, on the other, the approximation of the IPVC to the business fabric. It is intended that this OTIC is a determining agent of business innovation in the region, through the provision of high quality services geared to the need of companies.

WHO ARE WE HEADED TO?

We are addressing teachers, researchers, students and alumni. We intend to establish partnerships with companies, other public or private institutions. To develop investigations that are protected by the intellectual property of their inventions, through which OTIC-IPVC is responsible as a titular entity.

WHAT DO WE INTEND?

-Provide an environment of cooperation between IPVC and companies and other entities, particularly the region, through the transfer of technology and knowledge in joint projects;

-Promote research and development and innovation with researchers, professors and other collaborators of IPVC;

-Identify technological needs of the business sector and ensure its translation into innovative and competitive technological development projects that can be fulfilled by the Polytechnic Institute individually or in conjunction with other Technology transfer units;

-Identify and disseminate the technological offer of IPVC and other higher education institutions;

-Promote cooperation with other technology and knowledge transfer units, national or international, through the Constitution and dynamization of information and knowledge networks;

-Promote the development of new business ideas and support the Constitution, installation and development of new companies that meet the conditions for success and can contribute to the socio-economic development of the region and the country.

  • - Support to the elaboration and management of projects I &D+Innovation;
  • - Provision of services to the community in the areas of knowledge of IPVC;
  • - Support for the creation of companies;
  • - Support to intellectual property;
  • - Development of innovation diagnostics.
