Electronic Monitoring and Assessment Resources for Coaching: Digital empowerment of sport coaches

Filipe Manuel Batista Clemente | filipeclemente@esdl.ipvc.pt

MAIN GOAL

The e-MARC project is a small-scale transnational partnership (involving universities, confederation of sport coaches and regional clubs) aiming to digitally empower coaches from different sports, competitive levels, and sexes to promote inclusion and diversity across contexts. This project will enable sport coaches to choose and apply the most appropriate technological monitoring and assessment resources in sports, thus promoting the quality of coaching and staff. Such improvement aims to increase the chances of making a difference in the sports market and improve the opportunities for employability and competitiveness.

GOALS

Taking advantage of the well-consolidated academic and practical background of the members of this project and seeking to develop digital skills of coaches (also in line with the guidelines regarding the minimum requirements in skills and competencies for coaches), the main objectives of the e-MARC project are as follows:

(i)            Increase sport coaches? level of digital competence (in specific those with fewer opportunities), empowering them to use digital resources for collecting data and registering, storage and management of sports performance data (alignment with ?addressing digital transformation through the development of digital readiness, resilience, and capacity?)

(ii)           Combine cutting-edge theory with best-practice coaching experiences, thereby enabling coaches to convert data into information that helps them to regulate and adjust the training process daily (alignment with ?promotion education in and through sport - quality of coaching and staff?);

(iii)          Providing to sport coaches (with fewer opportunities) with an online network resource to store and manage private data and share experiences with other coaches, thus supporting active Europe citizenship and bring the European dimension to the local level (coaches with few resources, acting locally) (alignment with ?promotion education in and through sport - quality of coaching and staff? and with ?addressing digital transformation through the development of digital readiness, resilience and capacity?)

ACTIVITIES

WP1 Project Management: incorporates the progress meetings, the financial management and reporting, the definition, and control of schedules and deadlines, and the assessment of the milestones achieved and the deliverables produced in each WP;

WP2 Development: integrates the initial survey of the monitoring and assessment practice in the involved countries and its reporting. Then, the design, coding, and testing of the online platform with the assessment, monitoring, networking and education modules will be performed. The preparation of the virtual educational course, consisting of the main modules of assessment, monitoring, data management, and treatment will also occur as an activity in this WP.

WP3 Implementation: consists of spreading the e-MARC platform throughout the included countries and providing coachs certificates after the education program. Participants will also rate the quality of the online content, while adjustments will be made to the data insertion module based on users experiences.

WP4 Dissemination: integrates the preparation of information for the e-MARC online platform, the lunching of e-MARC on social network pages (e.g., Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, Linkedin), the delivery of quarterly newsletters and press releases in each country, the production of dissemination material (banners, leaflets, and poster) for use in all dissemination events, and the promotion of e-MARC at national and international conferences.
